Taking away the dead - under the supervision of Mr. Willi Blaickner
Dedicated to those brave men who stayed behind, when the last evacuation flight, of
the German Airforce´s Transall left Bong Mine, this page will in due course be filled
with some remarkable inside reports from the last expatriates at Bong in the summer of
1990.
They stayed back at a time when the heat of the Civil War stepped up and chaos finally
came over Liberia. Surrounded by various rebell factions and trying to keep the Mine
operational and the looting at a minimum, their major concern became mere survival,
especially when fighting came into the Bong Mine Area and Mr. Hermes was shot, after
getting in between two waring factions at Bong Mine´s Power Station.
If you have been among those who stayed behind, then please send me a brief account
of your personel experiences during these weeks.
Thank you very much in advance for your help and patience.
